Hello all. My name is Ivan Petrovich Pavlov! I arrived on this earth on September 26th, 1849 in Ryazan, Russia. My father Peter Dmitrievich was a priest while my mother Varvara Ivanovna Uspenskaya was a stay at home mother. I was the oldest of 11 children! Can you believe that? Poor mom. Anyways, I was a pretty active child. I ended up getting a pretty bad injury at age seven that resulted in me not being able to go to school until age eleven. I did pretty well in school I would say. I didn't even finish high school! I went to the University at St. Petersburg and in my fourth year, I won a big award. After I received a degree of Candidate of Natural Sciences, I realized I was still interested in Physiology. And so I continued to study at the Academy of Medical Surgery. I was the assistant of a couple doctors. I also studied the circulatory system for two years there. After that, I graduated from the Medical Military Academy with a gold medal award for my research.

After receiving my doctorate, I continued to work and study with Leipzig and Ludwig. In 1901, I was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for four successive years. While at the Institute of Experimental Medicine, I did studies with dogs and their salivary glands. Perhaps what I am most well known for. I would ring a bell every time I presented the dogs with food and they would in fact, salivate. I "conditioned" them to associate the sound of the bell with food. I know this because after a while, I would ring the bell and not even present food but the dogs would still salivate. They believed whenever they heard that sound, they would receive food. I'd like to believe that my discovery of classical conditioning in the 1920s, has had an impact on modern science.
